Ride Conditions
This tour is a mix of paved and unpaved roads however heavily biased to touring off road and demands a dual purpose (on-off road) motorcycle equipped with tires having a more aggressive tread pattern for off road traction. Prior off road riding experience is essential. No single track. In addition to prior off road riding experience the riders physical condition, riding skills, and tolerance to more primitive and possibly unpredictable travel scenarios may be tested.

Highlights
To accommodate the more off road orientation of the Explorer, the group will have the choice to trailer or ride to the staging area near Creel. MotoDiscovery will provide the transport to facilitate this move designed to minimize time on the asphalt.

The Copper Canyon. It is but one of twenty major canyons that make up this an enormous 50 thousand square mile complex of high mesas, river gorges and pine covered mountains, home to the fascinating Tarahumara Indian, today an iconic destination for the adventure traveler. This journey will easily demonstrate why the Tarahumara have survived relatively intact in their ways for hundreds of years and why Pancho Villa and raiding Apaches would melt away into its rugged wilderness when being pursued.

Urique is an old river front mining town, in the depths of the canyon of the same name, on the edge of civilization. The ride here is a thrill. Sightseeing is only advised when off the bike as this 4,000 thousand ft. descent will demand all of your attention.

The Sea of Cortez will be our goal and roughly the half way point of this event. It will be a time to recuperate, to enjoy some fresh seafood, attend to worn bikes and bodies and prepare for the return journey.

Situated in the western foothills of the Sierra Madres, Alamos has long been a MotoDiscovery highlight. Like San Miguel de Allende, it is a designated Mexico Colonial Monument town, regulated to maintain an 18th century character. It has long been a "secret" for a handful of gringos. The elegant haciendas are testimony to the wealth once nurtured from the mines. The town's people have always been genuinely gracious; a walk through the local market will certainly elicit smiles and that special bienvenido welcome that Mexico is so noted for.

Chinipas is another mining town over three hundred years old, remote and seemingly lost after the ore played out, but mining is slowly returning to the region. Crossing the Rio Chinipas is always a challenge, broad and rocky; it will be time for teamwork, to test your skills.... and a little luck!
