Highlights
The Sierra Gorda ranks as one of Mexico's premier motorcycle riding roads. Starting with the tropical eastern slopes of the Sierra Madre range, you'll curl through miles of twisting hills carpeted with lush green coffee plantations. Rising to an elevation of near 10,000 ft, you'll soon be in the pine forests. A panoramic view will open before you of a sprawling desert surrounded by jagged mountains. A great day of riding!

San Miguel Allende is the rage. In fact many MotoDiscovery riders were first introduced to this quaint Colonial era community on our tours only to fall in love, return and settle..for good! Cobblestone streets all lead to a delightful plaza, the church bells beckon from gothic spires inviting all for an evening of fun and socializing.

In 1945 an eccentric English nobleman, artist and passionate Surrealist by the name of Edward James settled in a remote region of the Sierra Gorda jungles to begin what was to be a lifetime of creating a meandering 75 acre concrete art project to become known as Los Pozos. Beneath the jungle canopy you'll be as intrigued by the story of this immense undertaking as well as that of the man who created it.

Padre Junipero Serra may be known more for the oldest building in California still in use, San Juan Capistrano, but along the Sierra Gorda in the cloud covered mountains of Mexico is a series of five stunning missions that are arguably his greatest works. Baroque in style, you will see a number of these missions throughout your journey.

Real de Catorce was a ghost town when we first discovered it over thirty years ago, but it is enjoying a renaissance after centuries of dormancy. A mining town situated in a high mountain "bowl" of a canyon high above the desert floor, it can only be accessed through a 1.5 mile narrow tunnel. Here is also one of four holy places of the indigenous Huichole Indians who come here at the direction of shamans seeking peyote in the surrounding hills for ritualistic and religious ceremony. You may be only less than a day from the USA but you are certainly a world away when in Real de Catorce! (note that occasionally climate and special fiesta days force us to substitute Real de Catorce for another stay)
