Ride Conditions This tour is a mix of paved and unpaved roads however heavily biased to touring off road and demands a dual purpose (on-off road) motorcycle equipped with tires having a more aggressive tread pattern for off road traction. Prior off road riding experience is essential. No single track. In addition to prior off road riding experience the riders physical condition, riding skills, and tolerance to more primitive and possibly unpredictable travel scenarios may be tested.
HighlightsThis tour is nearly identical as the popular Copper Canyon Expedition, but the difference will be that starting from day one, you'll be learning the essentials of how to ride with more comfort, more confidence and more safely. Small groups allow individual attention and the curriculum is sensitive to individual riding skill levels and needs.
What makes the MotoDiscovery training program the best is the "application" phase, that ability to take freshly learned techniques and newly acquired skills and apply them by riding the descent into the canyon to Batopilas. This kind of experience plants what you have learned into mental and muscle memory. Throughout this phase you are being coached, observed and casually critiqued in a no pressure learning environment. This concept will prepare you for the roads of the world.
While this is a training tour, it is also a taste of the diversity of cultures and thrills that await one who is enticed to see the world on two wheels. The Copper Canyon offers the geological thrills, but it is the native people, among them the indigenous and in some cases very primitive, Tarahumara Indian, that will remind you of what it is that pulls us to travel. Many still live in caves, their feet in sandals men in loin clothes, and the women adorned in wildly colored skirts with layers of petticoats. You will learn about the Tarahumara, their prowess as long distant runners and their history.
MotoDiscovery training is conducted by Coach Ramey Stroud, well known for his Cascade Ranch training in Lyons, Oregon and a long list of personal accomplishments in the world of competition motorcycling and training professional race teams. His training concept has been specifically designed for MotoDiscovery to focus on developing and improving skills required to meet the demands of real world adventure touring.
