The Tierra del Fuego Expedition (Part #3 of the Tour PanAmericas)

It is a journey to the end of the earth, the very tip of South America. The allure of riding the Patagonia to el Fin del Mundo is something we understand well. In fact we recognized this as far back as 1995 and have been running "the TdF" as an annual event ever since. This is a stand alone adventure ride, but it is also the third and final stage of the three part event; Tour PanAmericas that, if you choose, can have you riding all the way from the USA to where the road ends at Ushuaia.

Ride Conditions
This tour is a mix of paved and unpaved roads however heavily biased to touring off road and demands a dual purpose (on-off road) motorcycle equipped with tires having a more aggressive tread pattern for off road traction. Prior off road riding experience is essential. No single track. In addition to prior off road riding experience the riders physical condition, riding skills, and tolerance to more primitive and possibly unpredictable travel scenarios may be tested.

Highlights
One needs to consider that MotoDiscovery has operated more motorcycle expedition character events in this part of the world than anyone. That translates into having at our disposal, a treasure of contacts as well as a wealth of experience and knowledge.

The Andes are a constant companion throughout the tour. You will be riding over the high pass at Portillo from Chile into Argentina, and riding along and among them for the entire journey.

Patagonia. It will test you. The winds, the infamous Ruta 40, the remote and rugged environment that is essential for any South America motorcycle adventure touring experience. Yet it can not be denied that this open barren land of the gaucho will stand out as one of the most memorable.

The glacier of Perito Moreno near Calafate stretches for 20 miles through the Andes depositing in the Lago Argentino, one of the few in the world that is not retreating. With three nights in Calafate, there will be quality time to experience this Patagonia wonder.

Torres del Paine National Park is where, as the name implies, a range of snow capped Andean mountain pinnacles tower to the heavens, a stunning vision especially when sighting condors in flight. This is the South America you came to see!

The Caraterra Austral is enjoyable riding, an unpaved route that runs the length of Southern Chile, a region of lush fjord lands dotted by glaciers, turquoise lakes and pine forests.

The Pacific Ocean and sparkling lakes provide bountiful fish and seafood dishes. Of course Argentina is world renown for its range feed beef, fine wines and Italian influenced dining. In the gaucho tradition you can count on the occasional open fire pit asados of succulent lamb. In MotoDiscovery tradition, most meals will be "open menu", a sign of quality and our long commitment to make dining an integral and pleasurable part of the touring experience.

Ushuaia is the most southern point of population on the planet. With penguins lining the beaches of Tierra del Fuego you gain perspective of just how close you are to the Antarctica. (Note that Antarctica excursions are available out of Ushuaia. Contact MotoDiscovery for consultation)
