When we first started riding in this region of Chihuahua state, there were few paved roads. What was once dominated by those who enjoy getting dirty in the dual sport motorcycling world, today is shared by those who prefer to stay on the pavement. With lightly traveled, scenic and sporting roads now lacing through the Sierra Madres, one can enjoy this tour on any kind of motorcycle. A great travel value that serves also as a fine introduction to touring South of the Border.
Highlights
• The Copper Canyon has been our stomping grounds since the beginning of our Pancho Villa Moto-Tours days. We know the region well. Our ride from Parral to Creel will be exceptional, filled with awesome scenery and mile after mile of enjoyable curves. The ride will be capped with an overnight on the rim of the canyon. Experience encounters with the Tarahumara Indians, known worldwide for their long distance running abilities and aboriginal traditions.
• Overnight in the capital city of Chihuahua and visit the once home of Pancho Villa, now a museum.
• Nuevas Casas Grandes is a community that seems fairly mundane on the surface. But its history speaks volumes. Casas Grandes was founded by Mormons, was once occupied heavily by Chinese, is known for an artistic pre-Hispanic culture called the Paquime and as the bivouac area for 11,000 gringo troops who chased but never found Pancho Villa during the Punitive Expedition of 1916. Like many MotoDiscovery destinations, this one is not high on the tourist list but is a landmark of both Mexican and USA history.
