For well over a decade the month long MotoDiscovery Expeditions have become the legendary standard for adventure touring in South America. But this is a heavy time commitment that many can not afford so to address this we bring you shorter riding vacation that has a hint of challenge, loads of style and some of the most jaw dropping scenery in the world.
This event begins and ends in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, the Bavaria of South America situated in the shadows of the Southern Andes. While the city enjoys a “hip” international reputation for winter skiing, the South America summer (January – March) provides perfect climate for exploring a network of roads surrounding glacial lakes, through Alpine forests and the Andean foothills. Riding nirvana!
We mention style. If you are short on time you’ll want to make the most of your riding vacation so look for exceptional accommodations, memorable dining and the usual high MotoDiscovery standards of service. Groups will be small and this is an event you will not regret bringing your favorite passenger. In fact if you are seeking to organize a private ride date for just you and your friends, consider the Argentina Elegante as the perfect template for a custom tour with features and amenities adapted to suit your specific tastes.
This one is light adventure. You’ll need to get off the pavement some but by any standard, the route is easily navigated by any experienced touring enthusiast.
(Note: if you need to tune your skills and enhance your comfort riding on unpaved surfaces, consider a MotoDiscovery Adventure Riding Course as your first step to a safer and more enjoyable riding experience.)
Highlights
- We recommend that you extend your South America experience by adding a few nights in Buenos Aires, birthplace of the exotic dance of the Tango. MotoDiscovery will consult with you on how to make the most of your South America holiday.
- On flying into San Carlos de Bariloche, get a window seat! The views of the Andes are breath taking and a hint of what your next week will offer.
- Bariloche is in western Argentina, founded on Lake Nahuel Huapi by German and Austrian immigrants in the late 19th century and retains a Bavarian look and feel. While the city of under 100,000 offers plentiful interests for the international tourist, the roads both paved and unpaved are spectacular, riding north along the Andean foothills.
- Patagonia has become the buzz word for the motorcycling adventurer. It encompasses much of southern Argentina and Chile and is a combination of broad windswept steppes, lush flora and pristine lakes fed by the melting snow of the Andes.
- A highlight of the Elegante is...the elegance! After a day on the road, how nice it will be to be treated to delightful accommodations for relaxation or to pursue a more active holiday of fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding and of course optional day rides. The itinerary is purposefully laid back.
