Who is a good candidate for a tour?
This is a great tour for someone who wants to experience the best of Colorado back roads. Ideal candidates should be comfortable riding 2-track dirt and gravel roads. If you have less experience please consider joining us for a MotoDiscovery Training Tour to help build your off the pavement riding skills. Skill fuels confidence!
Should I rent a bike or bring my own?
If you have one of the “mega” touring machines such as the BMW R1200GS, and you have not been off road with it, you may benefit from a riding a lighter weight rental where the weight and performance will not be so overwhelming - so renting should be considered. Fear of dropping your bike is also inhibiting. Contact us to reserve your DRZ400 or KTM690 rental today.
What can you tell me about your rental motorcycles?
Our fresh Suzuki DRZ 400S rental motorcycles are ideally suited for off-road trails and ribbons of asphalt and are well suited for this event. The nimble, liquid-cooled DRZ is a time-proven dual-sport motorcycle - lightweight, with an impressive amount of torque to tackle with confidence all phases of the tour both on and off-road. Our street-legal DRZs come equipped with knobby DOT tires (Dunlop 606 or equivalent) aluminum skid plates and radiator guards, tank bags, hand guards and small tail bags. Because we provide a support vehicle, your bikes will remain unencumbered by your gear to maximize your touring experience.
The bikes normally have a seat height of about 36". We can provide bikes with lowered suspensions and seats upon advanced request.
The price includes (7) rental days and $25/ day insurance.
Will you carry my gear?
Yes. We provide a support vehicle capable of carrying all your extra gear and non-riding passengers as well.
Can I bring my friend, wife, husband etc?
Yes. We have a comfortable overland support vehicle that can accommodate passengers in comfort and style. If you are planning to ride 2-up, please understand that this is not an event to learn to safely ride off-road with a passenger. Please contact us for consultation on this matter.
What is the riding like?
On Day 1 we hit the high desert dirt roads of Grand Mesa en route to some of the most spectacular mountain passes surrounding Telluride, Colorado. Continuing on the ride, there will be sections of pavement to connect the best dirt and gravel roads. All of the dirt roads are 'double track' and accordingly, there is no (planned) 'single track' riding on this adventure. All roads are navigable by our support vehicle which will always be trailing behind the riders.

What are the accommodations like?
We seek out quality lodging and accommodations whenever possible. There is no camping on this tour. We will generally stay at smaller family-style places that have unique amenities such as hot springs when available.
Will altitude be an issue?
It shouldn't be much of an issue. However, we do recommend coming in a day or so earlier than the event start to begin 'acclimatizing' to the higher Colorado elevation - especially if you are coming from a near sea level elevation. Hydration and good rest are important to stave off the effects of higher altitudes. In general, we follow the rule of 'ride high, sleep low' which helps prevent any ill effects. Feel free to call us for consultation.
How much off-road will there be?
Approximately 70% of the route is off-road, along dirt roads and mountain passes. The remaining 30% is on exceptional paved sections that we have carefully selected to make the most of the time on-road.
What if I am not comfortable off-road?
Consider taking an Adventure Rider Training with us if you are not sure your skills are up to par. We will provide you with exceptional trainers and opportunity to practice your skills in a real-world touring environment.
Will you arrange airport transfers?
We will provide transfers to the hotel on the first day of the trip in Grand Junction. At the end of the tour, transfers to Denver International Airport are up to you, however, we can certainly provide consultation.
Will you provide a checklist of required gear?
You will receive a comprehensive pre-tour information packet that includes a checklist and all supporting information to make sure you are in the know regarding all aspects of this adventure touring experience.
