(San Antonio, Texas USA) September 14, 2016
Women’s Motorcycle Tours and MotoDiscovery are organizing the first ever all women’s motorcycle tour of Cuba. Scheduled for March 18-26, 2017.
This event will focus on people to people encounters throughout a country that until only recently was permitted tightly controlled access to US citizens due to over a half century travel embargo and US imposed sanctions.
“Cuba has been calling me since was very young. Enchanted with the forbidden country so close and yet so far away, I've longed to visit her most of my life,” said Alisa Clickenger, the Event Organizer at Women’s Motorcycle Tours. “Thanks to MotoDiscovery's efforts in establishing a people to people program, we are now able to travel through Cuba using my favorite mode of transportation and exploration: motorcycles.”
The nine day tour has a full schedule of People-to-People (P2P) exchanges designed to inform, educate and promote _DSC9538.jpgmeaningful interaction with Cubans from all walks of life. Educated, extremely resourceful and proud, the people of the island express little concern over the contentious politics that has raged between the USA and Cuba since the triumph of Fidel Castro’s Revolution in 1959. With a new era of detente and a softening of the decades long embargo, the welcome mat is laid out and it is universally agreed that now is the time to experience Cuba.
MotoDiscovery has been leading international tours to exotic destinations since 1981. After applying for and gaining a prestigious license from the US Treasury Department in 2012, legal travel to Cuba for USA citizens was added to the lineup. A country largely off limits was for the first time accessible.
“There is no better way to engage the people of Cuba than by traveling on two wheels”, says MotoDiscovery founder Skip Mascorro, “Visiting rural villages, tobacco farms, enjoying the distinctive rhythms of Cuban music and learning of the country’s fascinating history has been an enlightening experience, one that we feel honored to share”.
Speaking about the all women ride of Cuba Mascorro says,“MotoDiscovery is an early pioneer in staging all-female motorcycle tours, having run numerous all-women events into Old Mexico,” says Mascorro. “Working with Alisa and Women’s Motorcycle Tours on creating the first all-lady ride to Cuba will certainly raise the profile of women in motorcycling and promote some authentic people to people opportunities along the road. I think we are going to get a little attention on this one!”
Riders will be treated to open roads with little traffic, diverse scenery including lush tropics, beautiful mountains and the crystal waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Non riding lady participants may join the event, traveling in the support vehicle. Early reservations are requested.
