How difficult is the riding?
There is NO mandatory single track on this tour. This ride combines excellent dirt roads and 2-track trails with twisty pavement sections that can't be missed. All portions of the route are drivable by our support truck which will follow behind the group at all times.
In general, we have chosen at most an intermediate route well-suited to smaller dual-sport as well as larger adventure bikes. Previous off-pavement riding experience is required in addition to your bike being equipped with good dual-sport tires. Any questions, please give us a call.
Is Admission and camping at Overland Expo West included?
No. Because there are so many different ticket types and ways to attend Overland Expo, we decided to leave this up to you. You can purchase day passes, camping passes and packages that get you access to the premium training, classes, and events at the Expo. All the different entrance options can be found on the Overland Expo West Attendee Ticket Page.
Will there be a support vehicle?
Yes. Our support vehicle will be with us for the duration of the event to carry your personal gear, tools, water and non-riding participants (space is limited please give us a call to confirm)
Should I rent a bike or bring my own?
If you have one of the “mega” touring machines such as the BMW R1200GS, and you have not been off-road with it, you may benefit from a riding a lighter weight motorcycle where the weight and performance will not be so overwhelming - so renting should be considered. Fear of dropping your bike is also inhibiting. Contact us to reserve your well-outfitted rental motorcycle today.
What can you tell me about your rental motorcycles?
All of our late-model, Rocky-Mountain-Ready rental motorcycles are well-suited for the dirt roads and ribbons of asphalt on this tour. The nimble, liquid-cooled DRZ is a time-proven dual-sport motorcycle - lightweight, with an impressive amount of torque to tackle with confidence all phases of the tour both on and off-road.
We also have the capable Honda Africa Twin equipped with dual-sport tires - ready to make the most of the great off-road riding in the Southwest. And because we provide a support/luggage vehicle, your bikes will remain unencumbered by your gear to minimize weight and maximize your touring experience.
Will you carry my gear?
Yes. We provide a support vehicle capable of carrying all your extra gear and non-riding passengers as well.
Can I bring my friend, wife, husband, etc?
Yes. We have a comfortable overland support vehicle that can accommodate a limited number of passengers in comfort and style. If you are planning to ride 2-up, please understand that this is not an event to learn to safely ride off-road with a passenger. Consider attending one of our Rider Training Tours if you would like to sharpen your off-pavement skills.
Can I safely store my truck/van/trailer in Flagstaff, AZ during the ride?
Arrangements can be made to store your vehicle and trailer in Flagstaff at the rendezvous hotel. Please contact the hotel directly with information on your vehicle and trailer to confirm.
What will the riding be like?
The riding will be a blend of off-road, double-track dirt roads along with twisty, paved 2-lane roads. Changes in the weather, forest fire activity, and other variables may result in changes to the routing.
What sort of gear will I need to bring?
This will be covered in our pre-trip communication emails, however, if you want to get started, here is a good checklist for a dual-sport adventure ride. Keep in mind that space is limited in the support vehicle and gear can be stowed in Flagstaff at the hotel while on the tour.
Will there be any tent camping?
There is no tent camping on this event. If you choose to attend the Overland Expo, tent camping is available, as well as motel lodging nearby. See the following Overland Expo website for more information.
